Bophut Beach

Bophut beach is a popular fishing village in Koh Samui.

It features two primary attractions: Bophut beach itself, which is found between Maenam and the Big Buddha; and the tranquil Fisherman’s Village, which is located in the middle area of the beach.

Bophut beach is one of the oldest tourist attractions in the island. However, Fisherman’s Village is quickly gaining a reputation among travellers who are looking for a well-preserved destination and one that is elegant as it is picturesque.

Fisherman’s Village is dotted with wooden shophouses decorated in Chinese fashion, as well as a few modern establishments here and there. Several boutiques sell eye-catching jewellery and beautiful handmade clothing. The blend of old and new has resulted in a relaxing atmosphere rich in southern Thai character.

Aside from the beach, visitors can choose from a wide range of attractions to see and do. Don’t miss the iconic Big Buddha temple, known as the Wat Phra Yai. The 12-meter high golden Buddha was built back in 1972 and is one of the most frequented attractions in Koh Samui.

If wildlife interests you, visit the Samui Crocodile Farm where you’ll find all kinds of crocodiles including saltwater species as well as caimans, lizards, snakes, monkeys, and so much more. The Samui Crocodile Farm also holds a regular snake and crocodile shows where you can witness performers engage in jaw-dropping feats with these animals.

Golf enthusiasts should stop by the Bophut Hills Golf Club for a few rounds. Found on Samui Ring Road, the golf club is surrounded by scenic hillsides and coconut trees. After your game, head over to the clubhouse for some snacks and refreshments.

There is also a wide range of accommodation options in and around Bophut beach. Given the excellent shopping, terrific Thai and western dining outlets, and its tranquil atmosphere, it’s no wonder this destination is highly recommended for anyone visiting southern Thailand.
