Aow Leuk Beach, Bay Resorts, Accommodation & Snorkelling, Koh Tao
On both sides of the bay, you will find vibrant coral reefs that are home to colourful sea creatures. What people love most about this beach is that you don’t have to swim too far just to see fish. The sandy seafloor also makes it ideal for lounging or swimming.
Many come to this part of Koh Tao as a quiet retreat from the business of the nearby Sairee beach. It provides the isolation and tranquillity that you need to recharge on a private beach, but for the best experience, snorkelling is highly recommended. Not far from shore are the beautiful coral reefs teeming with vibrant marine life.
Snorkelling equipment is readily available here for rental. During the afternoons, the coast fills up with dive boats, but they will hardly disturb you. If you stay on the nearly virgin-like beach, you can enjoy a peaceful afternoon soaking up the sun or reading a book.
Twice a year, the beach comes alive with the presence of baby blacktip reef sharks. They are harmless and just go about their business, but you can swim alongside them with no problem at all. The adult blacktip reef sharks are found further out – some 500 meters from the shore. The area is a nursery environment for these beautiful sea creatures, and if you’re lucky you’ll get to see them during your visit.
Simply put, it’s hard to beat Ao Leuk Bay. Not only are you treated to the best beaches, but life in and out of the water is fantastic. The beach is lined with numerous accommodation options; including tropical Thai bungalows, hotels, and resorts to choose from. Modern conveniences are easily accessible here; there are bars, restaurants, shops, ATM’s, convenience stores, and much more.
The calm conditions all year round make this place ideal for visitors who want to relax or snorkel. The bay is only open to visitors until 5pm, so make sure that you leave before noon to make the most out of your trip.
