Markets & temples are just as popular in Koh Samui as its beaches.

There is an impressive array of both to explore to get your fill of delicious food, rich heritage, incredible culture, and excellent yet affordable shopping.

Best Koh Samui Shopping Malls, Night Markets, Food & Walking Streets


Fishermans Village is one of the most popular markets here. It doesn’t hurt that it also happens to be on a beautiful beach! Take a stroll to see the many historic wooden homes here; some of which were built back during in 19th and 20th century. The walking street area of Fishermans Village allows visitors to explore a traffic-free zone filled with eateries, entertainment choices, cafes, and shops.

Chaweng Walking Street is a famous outdoor market in Koh Samui. It’s truly an experience for the senses, as you will encounter an array of textures, aromas, and colours here. Chaweng Walking Street is great for shopping for beachwear, bags, sarongs, and stunning carvings for your home. Don’t forget to bargain; this is expected while here.

A visit to the local markets wouldn’t be complete without a stop at the Central Festival Samui. A heaven for shopaholics, you’ll find over 200 retail outlets spread out across its 90,000 square feet of shops.

When it comes to temples, visitors will find numerous old Chinese and Buddhist shrines throughout the island. The Big Buddha Temple is the most famous of these; the majestic 12-meter high statue was erected in 1972 and is a popular touristic draw today.
