Bang Kao Beach

Bang Kao Beach is one of the quieter beaches on Koh Samui. Located on the island’s southern coast, this beach is loved for the fact that it’s less commercialised than the eastern part of Koh Samui.

If you want to enjoy a relaxing tropical holiday and be away from the crowds, this beach is highly recommended.

There are only a handful of bars, restaurants, and shops here but that’s what makes it so unique. What it lacks in nightclubs or girly bars, it makes up for with spectacular natural beauty and a pristine beach. To get around, you’ll need to hire a scooter or car since the Songthaew forms of public transport are not available here.

This beach is particularly popular for families because it’s quiet, safe, and enjoyable. On the beach itself, you’ll witness local fishermen anchor their longboats, while their wives sit on the beach as they fix the fishing nets. Once the sun sets, the fishermen leave to go on night-time fishing expeditions.

There is so much to see and discover while you’re here. Don’t leave without going on a boat tour, where you can explore the nearby islands of Koh Taen and Koh Madsum. Bookings can easily be made at bars and restaurants around town.

These areas have stunning rocks, and there is also a hidden Buddha in a temple for you to find. Visit the Laem Sor Pagoda right on the beach, where magnificent beach views serve as the background. Within the pagoda grounds, there is also a stunning picnic area and a shop selling food and refreshments. In the forest above the Laem Sor Pagoda, you’ll find the Wat Khao Chedi the Rattanakosin Chedi, another must-see temple while you’re here.

If you feel like relaxing, there’s no better place to do it than in Bang Kao Beach itself. The clean and clear waters are warm and refreshing, the beach is white, and you can see the spectacular Suratthani coastline and the nearby islands.
