Bang Por Beach

Bang Por Beach is one of the best-loved beach areas in Koh Samui. If you’re looking for a beach with local flavour, a serene atmosphere, and picturesque seascapes, this is it.

Located on the island’s north, this beach offers a piece of heaven where you can truly rewind and recharge.

Its charm lies in its laid-back vibe. The beach stretches for around 5 kilometres, although the further north you go, the busier it gets. Because of its popularity with ex-pats as well as retirees, short and long term rentals are widely available as the accommodation option of choice. If that isn’t your cup of tea, there are also cute beach bungalows, huts, and guesthouses available. It’s cheap enough for visitors to stay weeks, even months at a time; but it’s just as good for a short and sweet stay.

What makes Bang Por Beach unique is that it’s the complete opposite of what you’ll find in the beaches of the Big Buddha, Lamai, and Chaweng. These beaches are known for strips of sand punctuated with large-scale hotels, busy crowds, and western restaurants. But here, you get an isolated slice of paradise that still has a lot of authentic Thai flavour mixed into it. From the beach, you can see the islands of Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, which you can get to via a boat tour if you wish.

But the star here is the unspoiled, pristine beach area. It’s perfect for mastering the art of doing nothing. Aside from the few local fishermen who are busy in the shore with their morning catches, it’s unlikely that you’ll be disturbed while you’re here.

Another thing that makes this beach so unique is that it gives visitors a taste of local neighbourhood life. Most of the people in the area already do live here, or operate small businesses. You’ll come across friendly shop owners everywhere you go, and the warm Thai hospitality will make it feel like home.
