Jansom Bay

Jansom Bay is a blissful beach in Koh Tao, recognised for its fantastic snorkelling.

It’s characterised by a small bay and a small sandy beach area punctuated by granite boulders by the shore; great for swimming even when it’s low tide because the water is always deep enough for comfortable and safe swimming, as well as snorkelling.

There are dozens of colourful marine life to encounter here. These include the sweet lips, yellow boxfish, titan triggerfish, porcupine pufferfish, blue-spotted stingray, and if you’re lucky, octopus! To get here, you will need to walk from a private beachfront area; all visitors will be charged with a small entrance fee.

The nearest accommodation options only provide a handful of choices, which include several bungalows, villas, hotels and resorts. If you are visiting Koh Tao to do a lot of snorkelling, this is the best place to base yourself in. Overall, it’s tranquil and far from the party scene. The beach is peaceful during the day, ideal for visitors who want are looking for a serene tropical holiday in surroundings that resemble paradise. The beach features crystal clear waters, and visitors can relax on the sun loungers set beneath the swaying coconut trees.

Aside from snorkelling, the calm and peaceful waters make it an excellent place for kayaking. Most of the hotels and resorts here offer kayak rentals, as well as other water activities to enjoy. When the sun goes down, take photos of the magnificent golden sunsets that this beach is known for.

The best time to visit is from December to September, the area’s dry season, ideal for beach activities and good sunshine. Other nearby beach areas include Sai Nuan, Je Te Kang, Shark Bay, June Juea, and Chalok Baan Kao.

To get here, you will need to take a ferry first to Koh Tao. Then hire a taxi or walk a short 20 minutes away from Koh Tao’s main pier.
