Laem Thian Beach

Laem Thian is a serene beach on Koh Tao’s eastern side. If you are looking for a place to truly get away from everything, this spot is highly recommended.

Because of its isolation, this area is very much alive and has a raw, rugged beauty.

The snorkelling here is unique because you’ll come across fish that aren’t found in other sites in Koh Tao. These include the masked unicornfish, humphead parrotfish, schools of butterflyfish, blacktip reef sharks, giant groupers, and so much more.

Aside from snorkelling, one of the highlights of this beach is the rocky areas. On the northern side, you’ll find rocky areas that are perfect for cliff jumping. The rock formations here even continue underwater since they have created spaces where you can swim through, and even tunnels that divers can pass through.

This is one of the best places to go to in Koh Tao for sea turtle sightings. That’s because the turtles just go to the beach to lay eggs. So if you make it a point to visit, there’s a good chance you’ll see a turtle or two. The beach’s soft sand, dead coral, and boulders make it the ideal spot for turtles to lay their eggs.

The only way to get to Laem Thian is by walking, but it’s an incredibly scenic trek that you won’t regret. From Sairee town, it takes around 1 1.5 hours, which makes for an excellent day trip out of Koh Tao’s busier areas.

Just make sure to bring along food and refreshments since there are no shops, restaurants, or resorts on the beach – the closest bungalows and resorts are located in Tanote Bay. If you are coming from Tanote Bay, it is also possible to kayak to this beach since the bays are close to each other. It will only take 30 minutes from here via kayak.
