Koh Tao is one of the most enchanting destinations in Thailand. However, you should research how to get to Koh Tao since there are many different ways to get there.
The most convenient way to start the journey is to come from Bangkok, and from here you can take air or overland transport.
How To Get To Koh Tao From Bangkok, Surat Thani, KL & Koh Samui
If you don’t have much time, flying is the best option. Booking flights in advance can save you a great deal of money. You’ll have to go through Bangkok and either fly from the Suvarnabhumi Airport or the Don Mueang International Airport directly to Chumphon. From either of these airports, you can then take a taxi to the train station and then board a boat to Koh Tao. There are flights several times a day, so it’s pretty easy to find an affordable flight that suits your schedule, especially if you book early.
You can also fly into the Surat Thani airport, which services flights from Kuala Lumpur and other Thai destinations. From the airport you can purchase bus and ferry tickets which take you to the Don Sak pier; from here you board a boat that takes you to the Mae Haad Pier in Koh Tao.
If you’re thinking of taking the bus, head over to the Southern Bus Terminal and get a ticket for Chumphon. Getting a bus and boat ticket from the terminal is convenient since it will save you time. The Songserm Speed Boat and the Lomprayah Catamaran are the most popular boats headed for Chumphon.
The train is another affordable option, and much more convenient if you take the sleeper train. It will also save you money overnight since you don’t have to pay for accommodation. The night trains leave from the Hua Lamphong station in Bangkok and take you directly to Chumphon. You can also book combo train and boat tickets from the station.
