When you’re visiting the island of Koh Samui, you’ll want to experience all of the best activities and neighbourhoods the island has to offer. Many people enjoy the northern coast of Samui since there are many things to do and historical sights to see. There’s also access to the beautiful white sand beaches and crystal clear waters of the Gulf of Thailand.
Check Out the Big Buddha
One of the greatest attractions on the island of Koh Samui is seeing the Big Buddha statue at Wat Phra Yai. This gigantic golden Buddha sits in a meditation pose at 12 meters high, welcoming everyone into the temple.
If you haven’t visited a Buddhist temple yet, this is a fantastic one to visit since the temple grounds provide excellent views of the northern coast. Be sure to come before 6PM, since that’s when the temple officially closes.
View the Island’s Native Species at the Crocodile Farm
If you’re looking to take your family to a zoo, this is pretty much the only one close on the island and there are animals you wouldn’t ordinarily find! They have a variety of crocodiles from caimans to Siamese crocodiles.
They also have other reptiles on the farm such as snakes, lizards, geckos, and more creepy crawlers. Another main attraction at the Crocodile Farm is the snake and crocodile shows. Brave locals impress the audience by doing stunts and tricks with the animals.
Race around the Samui Go-Kart Track
This is a fun and easy place to entertain the whole family! At the Samui Go-Kart, located on Samui Ring Road, there are many types of go-karts suitable for children and adults of all ages.
Race your family or friends around a 500-meter circular track. You can also choose a go-kart that seats two people in case your little ones don’t want to drive. Just make sure that the loser knows he or she is buying ice cream!
Shop Around the Fisherman’s Village
If you’re looking for a great place to grab lots of souvenirs for friends and family, you won’t want to miss the weekly open market in the Fisherman’s Village. Every Friday night, street vendors and shop owners set up stands and sell their handcrafted items. If you’re in the Bophut Beach Village on a Friday night, you won’t want to miss this event.
The Fisherman’s Village is also a great place to eat at since many of the restaurants are located right on the beach. The Happy Elephant is an excellent authentic Thai restaurant that is a nice treat, we recommend dining there to enjoy the local cuisine.
Drink a Cocktail on the Relaxing Beach
The Bophut Beach Village is home to some of the nicest beaches on Koh Samui, it would be a waste if you didn’t visit them! Luckily, there are plenty of beach bars and fun hangouts so you can truly relax and feel like you’re on vacation.
One of our favourite bars is Coco Tams. Not only do they serve great tropical alcoholic cocktails, but they have comfy seating right on the sandy beach. You can sip on your Mai Tai while sitting on a bean bag chair and enjoying a spectacular sunset.
Visit the Elephant Walk Night Market
If you’re looking for more places to shop and get even more souvenirs, don’t forget to visit the Elephant Walk night market. This market takes place every day and opens around dusk.
If you’re looking for an artsy market, this is definitely the one to check out. There are also plenty of food carts and cheap street food vendors in case you’re looking for a snack or a quick bite to eat.
