Chaloklum

Chaloklum is a quaint, charming village in Koh Phangan that serves as the main fishing port in the north.

The bay is home to the distinct Thai fishing boats, but there are nearby beaches to explore.

There are numerous attractions to enjoy while here, and undoubtedly the abundance of fresh seafood is one of them. The restaurants along the beach and in town serve the most delicious variety of seafood such as squid, shrimp, prawns, clams, oysters, and so much more. Best of all, the seafood is inexpensive, and you can enjoy them any way you like.

The beach features a long stretch of sand, peppered with a vast range of accommodation choices to cater to every budget and preference. If you’d like to go snorkelling head east to Haad Khom where the vibrant coral bay isn’t too far from shore. The beach is ideal for swimming from December to March, which is when the tide is high.

Due to the northern location of this beach, you can’t see sunsets or sunrises here, but its allure lies in the fact that the absence of mass tourism means that there are very few travellers you will need to share the beach with.

In the past, Chaloklum was very quiet, but over the past few years, tourist demand has resulted in the development of more infrastructure such as paved roads, shops, restaurants, clinics, ATM’s, and convenience stores, among others.

This area is unique because it’s the perfect embodiment of old and new. Traditional Thai structures line the road, and the timeless image of the fishing boats are evident throughout the scenic bay. On the other hand, there are the modern establishments that flank the beach. As a result, visitors are given a unique experience tucked into this part of Koh Phangan that you can’t find anywhere else.
