Wat Chaloklum

Wat Chaloklum is a magnificent temple in Koh Phangan. Conveniently located in the middle of the village, the temple is worth a visit thanks to its eye-catching dacor.

It stands out for its stark white facade with stunning gold embellishments, which makes for some great photos.

Wat Chaloklum, Buddhist Temple, Address & Dress Code, Koh Phangan

The temple is small, so a visit would only take a few minutes of your time. However, to truly appreciate its beauty, you are encouraged to walk around and look at the fine details; such as the intricate carvings and the Buddha statues. Its exterior is just as attractive as its interior. Even though there are many temples around Koh Phangan, this one is worth a visit, especially if you are already in the Chaloklum area.

When visiting this temple, it’s best to keep in mind proper temple etiquette. The first thing you should remember is to dress appropriately; this means that men shouldn’t wear shorts and tank tops, and women should cover their legs and arms. Without the proper clothing, you may be denied entry to a temple because it is deemed disrespectful. You should also remember to observe silence even if you’re just walking around the temple. Noise is never tolerated inside Thai Buddhist temples. If you are bringing children along with you, make sure that they avoid running around or shouting.

When you enter the Wat Chaloklum, it is respectful to remove your shoes. Going inside a temple barefoot is seen as a sign of respect to Buddha. Never point your feet or your fingers to Buddha as this is considered rude. Otherwise, you are free to take photos and enjoy your time in the temple. Visitors are allowed to photograph ceremonies, so if you’re lucky, you may stumble on one during your visit.
