Best Time To Visit Koh Tao

Researching the best time to visit Koh Tao is essential for the success of your trip, considering that this enchanting Thai destination is best known for world-class diving and breathtaking beaches.

To make the most out of your travels, it’s always best to go when the weather is good.

Best Time To Visit Koh Tao, Month For Weather & Least Rain, Thailand

Thankfully, the weather here is generally hot all year round. The average temperature hovers between 28 to 32 degrees Celsius.

The rainy season is from September to November, and during this period you can expect torrential rainfall. Water visibility is never good following heavy rain. The monsoon season usually involves rain that lasts around three hours or so in the late afternoons, but rainy days happen too.

From May to June, Koh Tao enjoys hotter, sunnier weather. This is ideal for visitors who intend to spend a lot of time under the sun or underwater. But the peak season is from December to March, then July and August again during the school holidays. If you travel during the peak season, make sure that you have made advanced bookings because hotels tend to get full, even months ahead.

If you’re travelling for diving, all year is the best time to visit Koh Tao. However, visibility and conditions are perfect from May to August. Visibility during these months, especially September, can exceed 30 meters. The water temperature is around 29 degrees Celsius year-round.

For those looking to encounter Koh Tao’s vibrant marine life, visit from July to August which is when whale sharks are usually seen often while the large pelagic species appear more at the pinnacles in Chumphon.

During the rainy season, visibility drops to around 8-12 meters, so while it isn’t the best time for diving or travel in general, the most popular dive sites are much quieter.
