Chaloklum Beach

Chaloklum Beach is a scenic, picturesque area of Koh Phangan. The 2.5-kilometre-long beach is framed by dramatic mountain ranges and is home to a sleepy fishing village.

The main area of the beach is where you’ll find the boat pier and several of the iconic longtail boats.

Here, catching seafood is the primary source of income for the locals. So if you love to eat fresh seafood, this destination shouldn’t be missed. The beach is lined with restaurants that not only serve seafood but where you can dine with the sand on your feet as you look out into the Gulf of Thailand.

The beach’s middle area is where the fishing boats tend to park; the waters here are darker than on either end and are not suitable for swimming. Instead, head over to the left or right side of the bay which has cleaner waters for swimming and relaxation. Other more peaceful options for swimming are the nearby Mae Haad or Haad Khom beaches.

Chaloklum Beach offers plenty of exciting activities for travellers to enjoy. Water sports such as kiteboarding, windsurfing, wakeboarding, and kayaking are popular here. Tour operators with water sports equipment can be found in the bay’s western areas. If you’d like to immerse yourself in authentic Thai culture, head to the upland or central regions, where places like Chaloklum village can offer you an unforgettable experience.

Travellers who wish to stay here for several days will be glad to know that accommodation is very affordable. There are Thai-run guesthouses, hostels, resorts, hotels and beachfront bungalows that are all inexpensive. Many of them are equipped with air-conditioning and satellite television, plus you will also rub elbows with the local Thai community.

So if you are looking for a peaceful part of Koh Phangan to relax in, look no further than this beach.
